A few notes on method:

Photoshop CS3
SketchBook Pro 11

First I took my own photographic reference. Then I traced the photo's 'line' work three times. You might be surprised how much tracing can teach you. I think it's taken me thirty years to realize tracing is not cheating, it's another way to learn about form and structure.

Next I drew her free hand with the photo as reference.

Finally I drew her from memory. That allowed me to push the pose a little here and there, but keep true to the form. That is the drawing you see here.

(No you can not see the photo of my wife. Haha.)

Her bottle, I drew in Sketchbook Pro with the mirror tool. A delightful program that makes digital drawing feel like paper. I can't get enough of it. The trial version is free, and you get can the full version for under $50 on Amazon.

I also found a really great secret for painting the hair! Just paint every single individual strand. Who knew? I'm much happier with the result than the previous methods I've tried for hair.

Overall, a delightful time over the few months this took to paint.
